We are ready for Back to School and excited to welcome all of our students for another year of fun-filled school activities! Stay posted for all of the events!

May 2024

As we near the end of another year at BACS, we look forward to upcoming fun events. This week we will be enjoying a student favorite, the Spring Olympics! Students will be participating in all kinds of events to test their physical abilities. Activities will include the High Jump, Relay Races, 3 on 3 Basketball Games, and the Color Run. Medals will be given in each category.

Bishop is the Mule Capital of the World so we celebrate big! This Thursday we join all of the other school to attend the festivities at the Tri-County Fairgrounds. There will be cowboys and cowgirls riding, roping, and racing mules!

September, 2020

WE ARE SO HAPPY TO BE BACK IN SCHOOL! After a long absence due to COVID-19, we resumed school on September 8! Our classrooms are busting at the seams with several new students joining us this year.  We have 18 students in grades 1-4 and 18 students in grades 5-8. Our kindergarten program, officially part of Rainbow Connection Preschool but located on our elementary campus, has a full classroom as well, with 10 eager learners.  We are taking all of the necessary and required precautions in order to be in-person for our learning, and we'll continue to be vigilant. We praise God for bringing us safely through the long spring and summer of COVID, and we pray for a healthy school year for all students in our Bishop community! Thank you to our parents for entrusting us with your greatest gifts.....your children!

We are happy to welcome our new students this year! May you find a caring, fun, and educational environment for your learning in 2020-21.

NEWS  FROM  BACS
Monday, October 14, marked a special day at Bishop Adventist Christian School. Pastor Craig Heinrich from Leoni Meadows, came for our first Week of Prayer in several years. Very quickly he became a favorite person on campus as he shared Jesus with our 90 children in preschool through 11th grade! His text for the week was 1 Timothy 4:12, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity.” Through his masterful story-telling, our new friend was able to share real life stories that helped each age group understand how to put this text into practice. “I liked everything he did,” said Maxynne, a 1st grader. “My favorite story was the Love story, about when he got caught in the waves.” William, a 9th grade on-line high school student stated, “Pastor Craig was really funny. My favorite story was the airplane one with the glass-glass of orange juice!”
Thank you, Pastor Craig, for taking your time to spend the week with us!

Doesn’t eating pancakes with police officers sound like fun? Our Kindergarten class has been busy learning the alphabet. Mason’s dad, Officer Donahue, and Mrs. Ellsworth’s husband, Lt. Ellsworth, are both part of the local law enforcement community, and when it was time for the letter P, the men joined the class for Pancakes with Police. They made pancakes for the kids and then enjoyed eating them together. Thank you, Mrs. Ellsworth, for this fun activity, and thank you, officers, for making pancakes for us and helping to keep our community safe!

Grades 1-4 are avid readers! Accelerated Reader is taking them to new heights. A 2nd grader’s mom has commented that because her son  is bringing his book home every night and wanting to read, the entire family takes 30 minutes to sit down in the living room and read silently together. Little preschool brother even participates in this life-skill learning activity. Another rambunctious 2nd grader, who has struggled with reading, has already read 37 books and passed the comprehension quiz. Because AR is a program built on comprehension, students are held accountable by taking a quiz on the computer after reading each book. We’re anxious to see the students’ results at the end of the year! Thank you, Mr. Slavens, for showing us the value of reading!

Grades 5-8 spent the week of October 21 in Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park with Dan Wyrick of Nature by Design, learning about the geology and fossils of Western Nevada. They also boned up on their camping skills! They enjoyed campfires at night, great food, and learning how God’s hand is in nature as He designed it. 5th grader, Addisyn Atherley said her favorite part of the week was digging for fossils and actually finding some. “I also found a clam,” she said, “which is weird because it is now a desert.” “There used to be a lot of rain, and it would run down and become a flood.” The group drove over 800 miles during the week, and we’re grateful for God’s traveling mercies.
Thank you, Mrs. Rodriguez, and all of the parents and volunteers who helped to make this experience possible.

Our online high school students enjoyed visiting the local Cerro Coso Community College campus to learn about Concurrent Enrollment classes and careers. We will continue to explore careers as we have guest speakers and job shadowing opportunities coming up. Our first guest will be a home appraiser. For a fun project, 11th grader Felix Veccharelli, who wants to attend culinary school, made pizza dough from scratch. The group brought toppings and made their own pizzas and enjoyed a great lunch together. Thanks, Felix, for the dough! You’ll make a great chef.
